About NULCO
Welcome to Newcastle-under-Lyme Community Orchestra (NULCO), a friendly and inclusive registered charity (Charity No. 1216002) dedicated to bringing people together through the power of music.
Founded in 2016, NULCO was established with a simple vision: to provide a welcoming community orchestra where musicians of all ages and backgrounds could enjoy making music together. Since our very first rehearsal, we have grown into a thriving musical family, bringing together players from Newcastle-under-Lyme and the surrounding areas.
We welcome musicians who can read basic music, regardless of their instrument or previous orchestral experience. Whether you've recently left school, are returning to music after many years away, or simply want to play with others in a relaxed and supportive environment, you'll find a warm welcome at NULCO.
In September 2024, NULCO entered an exciting new chapter, becoming an umbrella organisation for community music groups. The first ensemble to join the NULCO family was Newcastle-under-Lyme Jazz Orchestra (NULJO), providing opportunities for musicians to explore jazz and big band repertoire. This was followed in September 2025 by the launch of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Flute Ensemble (NULFE), offering a dedicated ensemble for flautists of varying abilities.
Today, NULCO is proud to support multiple ensembles, each with its own unique identity while sharing the same values of inclusivity, friendship, musical excellence, and community engagement. Together, these groups provide even more opportunities for people to make music, develop their skills, and become part of a welcoming musical community.
Across all of our ensembles, rehearsals are filled with encouragement, friendship, and laughter. We perform a varied programme of concerts and community events throughout the year, sharing our passion for music while supporting local communities and making live music accessible to everyone.
Whether you're looking to join one of our ensembles, book us for an event, support our charity, or simply enjoy one of our performances, we'd love to welcome you.
Making music together. Building community together.
